McArdle's Floral Design
Custom WooCommerce store with POS integration, delivery scheduling & customer accounts
Project Overview
A full-featured custom eCommerce website for McArdle's Florist & Garden Design, one of Greenwich's most beloved florists. Built on a custom WordPress/WooCommerce theme, the site features beautifully designed shopping categories, detailed product pages with size and style selection, and a multi-step checkout supporting both delivery and in-store pickup. Orders flow instantly to the in-store POS, keeping online and physical operations perfectly in sync.
About McArdle's Floral Design
McArdle's Florist & Garden Design is a Greenwich, Connecticut floral studio known for bespoke arrangements, indoor plants, and outdoor garden design. Its online store needs to represent the products visually while supporting the practical details of purchasing them. Customers need to understand the available choices and move from browsing to an order with a delivery or pickup preference attached.
540 Interactive built a custom WordPress and WooCommerce website with shopping categories, detailed product pages, size and style selection, customer accounts, and a multi-step checkout. The project also connects online orders to the in-store point-of-sale system. That combination makes the website both a customer-facing shopping experience and a connected part of the retailer's existing store operations.
The Challenge
For a florist, product presentation and order details are closely connected. A photograph can introduce an arrangement, but the customer still needs to choose the appropriate size or style and decide how the order will be received. Those decisions need a place in the purchase flow. Leaving them disconnected from the product page or checkout would make an otherwise attractive storefront less useful.
The operational challenge extends beyond the customer-facing pages. An online order needs to reach the people handling it in the physical store, with its purchase and fulfillment choices intact. McArdle's therefore needed more than a catalog with a payment button. The scope brought together product browsing, checkout, customer account information, mobile access, and an order connection to the in-store POS. Each part serves a different stage of the same retail transaction.
Our Approach
The custom WordPress and WooCommerce theme gives shopping categories and individual product pages a consistent visual language. Categories help customers narrow the catalog, while detailed product pages give size and style selections a clear place alongside the item being purchased. This structure connects the visual appeal of the products with the decisions required to add the right version to an order.
The multi-step checkout supports both delivery and in-store pickup. Rather than treating fulfillment as an unrelated follow-up, the purchasing experience includes those options in the transaction. Customer accounts add another layer of convenience through stored addresses and saved payment methods. Together, product options, checkout choices, and account information support the shopping journey from an initial selection through the details of receiving the purchase.
Instant order integration with the in-store POS connects that online journey to store operations. Orders are not confined to a separate website interface; they flow into the system used by the physical business. Mobile optimization extends the same storefront and checkout to customers browsing on phones. The implementation therefore addresses both sides of the project: a usable online store for customers and a connected order flow for the retailer.
The Result
The completed website combines a custom floral storefront with the operational connections described in the project scope. Customers can browse organized categories, review products, select size and style options, and choose delivery or pickup at checkout. Customer accounts retain supported address and payment preferences, while the POS integration carries online orders into the store's existing workflow.
The project demonstrates why retail website development requires attention to systems beyond the storefront itself. Visual design, product configuration, fulfillment choices, and order handling all affect how the website functions as part of the business. For McArdle's, WordPress and WooCommerce provide the storefront foundation, the custom theme shapes the shopping experience, and POS integration connects the transaction to the physical store.
A customer can arrive through a category, compare product options, select a size or style, and continue to checkout without leaving those choices behind. A returning customer can use the account features rather than starting entirely from scratch. For the store, the completed purchase enters the connected order flow. These connected steps are what distinguish the project from a website that only displays floral arrangements and asks visitors to call.
